Kairos Outside Weekends

God's Special Time

What happens at the KAIROS OUTSIDE weekend?

The weekend is a series of talks by women sharing their life journey. Each participant has the opportunity to review the talk in small groups. However, sharing in the small group is voluntary. The program is interspersed with music, prayer, fun, activities and general agape. The weekend is Christian in nature, although no religious affiliation is necessary to attend. Those who attend are expected to stay for the entire program.

Who may attend KAIROS OUTSIDE?

Any adult female 20 years or older whose life has been impacted by the incarceration of relatives or friends is eligible to attend a Kairos Outside weekend. Women who did not have an opportunity to attend a Kairos Inside Weekend while incarcerated may also attend. This program is not limited to those whose relatives or friends have attended a Kairos Inside weekend.

Who presents the weekend?

The team is made up of about twenty-eight (28) women, six (6) men and two (2) clergywomen. Many of the team members may be active in Kairos Inside. The team members come from many different Christian denominations and are committed to ministering to inmates and their families. Many members may have experienced a Kairos, Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, or a Tres Dias Weekend. They may be the wives or mothers of inmates. The team is made up of laywomen along with at least two clergywomen. The men are ONLY present in the Dining Area to assist with meals and background set-up.

How long is the KAIROS OUTSIDE?

The program starts on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and continues through Sunday afternoon no later than 4:00 p.m.

How much does KAIROS OUTSIDE cost to attend?

There is no cost to guests. Local Christian communities provide the funds through fund raising and donations.

Where do I stay during the retreat?

The weekend is held at a local retreat center. The facility provides food and lodging. Participants are asked to bring personal articles. Dress is casual and comfortable. Transportation can be provided upon request.

What about child care during the weekend?

Upon request,  assistance with childcare may be provided based on individual need and available funds.

Do I have to be a Christian to come on a weekend?

No. However, we request our guests be open to talks and discussions from a Christian perspective.

Why should I give up a weekend visit with my loved on to come to KAIROS OUTSIDE?

Your journey is often difficult. Many of the people in the outside world do not understand your position and may reject you. This weekend is designed to give you support from women who are in the same situation and/or Christian women who care about you and those who are incarcerated.
